JoAnne Brown

Brown teaches gifted and honors science and biology at Olympus Junior High, in Holladay, Utah. Whether it’s demonstrating energy principles or clarifying difficult-to-understand theoretical concepts through real-world examples, she both educates and empowers her students to take action.

Her students have proposed solutions to local issues involving geothermal energy, biofuels, wind energy, recycling, alternative energy sources and more — often working with local experts and agencies to implement their solutions.

Outside the classroom, Brown helps her local community increase its energy conservation focus. She also continues to elevate the standards of science education in her district and across the state and country. She’s served on the board and as president of the Utah Science Teachers Association.
